Overview

A custom home audio amplifier built end to end: Bluetooth streaming, four selectable audio inputs, a touchscreen for control, IR and Bluetooth remotes, and an enclosure designed to give the amplifier its own hardware audio profile.

Audio and firmware

  • ESP32 firmware that receives Bluetooth A2DP audio and streams it over I2S to a DAC.
  • Four selectable inputs (Bluetooth, TV, RCA 1, RCA 2), with a TDA7439 audio processor over I2C controlling volume, bass, mid, treble, gain and balance.
  • Per-input saved profiles (volume, tone, gain, balance) kept in non-volatile memory, with default recovery.
  • Amplifier power sequencing with relay, mute, subwoofer and fan control.

User interface

  • A DWIN touchscreen over UART with sliders and settings pages.
  • IR remote control and a debounced touch power switch.
  • Bluetooth remote control, added in the latest update.

Enclosure

The complete enclosure is built from 3D-printed parts, designed and tuned to a target frequency to create a custom hardware audio profile.

What's next

I'm now developing an 8-channel version, with frequency splitters ahead of the amplifier stage.
